Results of Monitoring of the Press of Armenia
Six national newspapers were monitored: 579 total number of newspapers and 8871 total number of materials.
Hayastani Hanrapetutyun - Daily newspaper printed in Armenian, founded in 1990, issued five times
a week (Tuesday-Saturday), with a circulation of 6000 copies. It has eight pages printed in A2 format.
During the monitoring period 116 issues were printed, which contained 1554 materials with 1773 descriptions
of partnership relations and hostility. It does not have a Web version.
Hayots Ashkhar - Daily newspaper in Armenian, founded in 1997, issued five times a week (Tuesday-Saturday),
with a circulation of 3500 copies. From Tuesday to Friday it has eight pages and on Saturdays 12 pages,
printed in A3 format. During the monitoring period there were 118 issues with 2071 materials and 2538
descriptions of partnership relations and hostility. It has a Web version in Armenian, which duplicates
the print version (www.hayashkharh.am).
Azg - Daily newspaper in Armenian, founded in 1991, issued five times a week (Tuesday-Saturday),
with a circulation of 3000 copies. It has eight pages, printed in A3 format. During the monitoring period
115 issues were printed, which contained 1220 materials with 1328 descriptions of partnership relations
and hostility. It has Web versions in Armenian, Russian, English, and Turkish, in which only a part of
the monitored materials of the print version were placed (www.azg.am). In the Armenian version there
are 75.9% of the monitored materials, 1.9% in the Russian, and 2.4% in the English.
Haykakan Zhamanak - Daily newspaper in Armenian, founded in 1997, issued five times a week (Tuesday-Saturday),
with a circulation of 4940 copies. It has eight pages, printed in A3 format. During the research period
107 issues were printed, which contained 1721 materials with 2100 descriptions of partnership relations
and hostility. It has a Web version in Armenian, which duplicates the print version (www.hzh.am).
Novoye Vremya - Newspaper in Russian, founded in 1992, issued three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday,
and Saturday), with a circulation of 5000 copies. It has eight pages, printed in A2 format. During the
research period 60 issues were printed, which contained 762 materials with 835 descriptions of partnership
relations and hostility. It has a Web version in Russian, in which 63.5% of the researched materials
were placed (www.nv.am).
Golos Armenii - Newspaper in Russian, founded in 1991, issued three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday,
and Saturday), with a circulation of 3500 copies. It has eight pages, printed in A3 format. During the
research period 64 issues were printed, which contained 1543 materials with 1639 descriptions of partnership
relations and hostility. It has a Web version in Russian, in which 32.4% of the researched materials
were placed (www.golos.am).

Results of Monitoring of the Press of Azerbaijan
Six national newspapers were monitored-in total 806 issues and 6629 materials.
Azerbaijan - Daily newspaper and organ of the Parliament of Azerbaijan , founded in
1918. In 1920 it was closed and re-opened in January 1991. It is issued in the Azerbaijani language six
times a week (Tuesday-Sunday). The usual page number of the newspaper is six to eight pages. However,
on holidays and memorial days it has 12 or 16 pages. The average circulation is 6000-7000 copies in A2
page format. During the monitoring period, 151 issues were printed with 584 materials and 704 descriptions
of partnership relations and hostility. It has a Web version in Azerbaijani, which sometimes publishes
official documents in both English and Russian (www.azerbaijan.news.az).
Yeni Azerbaijan - Daily newspaper printed in Azerbaijani founded in April 1993 and the
organ of the ruling political party "Yeni Azerbaijan ." It is issued five times a week (Tuesday-Saturday).
The circulation is not constant--in the second half of 2004 it varied from 3500 to 4690 copies. Usually
it has six pages, but sometimes it publishes official documents and its page number increases to eight.
The page format is A2. During the monitoring period 126 issues were published, with 601 materials and
723 descriptions of partnership relations and hostility. It has a Web version in the Azerbaijani language
(www.yeniazerbaycan.com).
Zerkalo - Daily independent newspaper printed in Russian, founded in August 1990, and
issued five times a week (Tuesday-Saturday). From Tuesday to Friday the paper has eight pages, in A2
format, with a circulation of 5000 copies. On Saturdays the newspaper has between 48-56 pages in A3 format,
with a circulation of 9000 copies. During the monitoring period, 126 issues were printed, in which 1309
materials with 1437 descriptions of partnership relations and hostility were contained. It has a Web
version in Russian, in which all materials of the print version are reprinted (www.zerkalo.az).
Echo - Daily independent newspaper printed in Russian, founded in January 2001, and issued
five times a week (Tuesday-Saturday). From Tuesday to Friday it has eight pages and on Saturdays 24 pages
in A3 format. The circulation of the daily issue is more than 6000 copies, and the Saturday issue is
more than 10000 copies. During the monitoring period 126 issues were printed, in which there were 1993
materials with 2115 descriptions of partnership relations and hostility. It has a Web version in Russian,
in which all materials of the print version are reprinted (www.echo-az.com).
Novoye Vremya - Daily independent newspaper printed in Russian founded in November 1999
and issued five times a week (Tuesday-Saturday). The circulation varies and depends on many factors,
including availability of material and political news. As a result, sometimes the newspaper stops printing.
In the second half of 2004, the circulation of the newspaper, on average, was 3500 and sometimes reached
5000 copies. From Tuesday to Friday it has 12 pages, in A3 format, and on Saturdays it has 16 pages,
in A2 format. During the monitoring period 121 issues were printed, which contained 815 materials with
921 descriptions of partnership relations and hostility. It has a Web version in Russian in which 87.7%
of the monitored materials were placed (www.novoyevremya.com).
Yeni Musavat - Oppositional daily newspaper in Azerbaijani and the organ of the political
party "Musavat." It was founded in 1989 as an underground newspaper and was registered in 1991.
Currently it is issued seven times a week. Circulation varies and depends on several factors, including
political and financial. As a result, sometime the newspaper stops printing. In the second half of 2004,
the circulation varied from 6000 to 14000 copies. From Monday to Saturday it is printed in 16 pages,
and on Sundays in 24 pages. The page format is always A2. During the monitoring period 156 issues were
printed, which contained 1327 materials with 1754 descriptions of partnership relations and hostility.
It has a Web version in Azerbaijani, in which 72.2% of the monitored materials were printed (www.musavat.com).
